Charities We've Helped:
May 2015 - $5790
On May 11th the YWCA Shelter was selected to receive funding with Jean Brown championing this cause. Monies will be used to provide for their women's and children's shelter, plus the needs of those who have temporary housing there.
Many victims come to the shelter after accessing the 24-hour crisis hotline, staffed by trained Shelter employees. Once the victim begins staying at the Shelter, they provide case management and personal advocacy, court advocacy, specialized children’s programs, support groups, life-skills groups, referrals to other services, and individual therapy – all at no charge. Victims who choose not to stay at the Shelter, or have moved from the Shelter into other housing, are also welcome to access their support groups and individual therapy services at no charge. Donations of $100 or more qualify for a 50% State of Missouri tax credit among others.
February 2015 - $5190
On February 9th Cinderella's Closet (sponsored by the Junior League) was voted to receive our funding. Stacia Studer championed the cause. A collaboration between the St. Joseph Junior League and Community Services, Cinderella’s Closet allows young ladies the opportunity to dress the part for special events such as high school prom, college formals, and military balls. Donated dresses, shoes, jewelry, and other accessories are available to shoppers twice a year, both in the Spring and Fall, coinciding with high school and college events. Since 2010, Cinderella’s Closet has provided more than 800 young women a dress for their special day.
